This evening I shot surf rock legend, Dick Dale at BB Kings on 42nd St. in NYC. The opening act were students from Paul Green's School of Rock - the ones who inspired the Jack Black movie by the same name. I've shot the School of Rock kids before, and they were decent, but tonights performance (different kids, different theme) was like a worse - than - average high school talent show. A few of the kids were decent musicians, but all were terrible performers. How Dick Dale got set up with them, I can't even imagine. In any case, when Dick Dale finally came on, we got to see and hear a truly great performance. Hopefully those kids were taking notes.
