Its that time of year...

Time for the new Canon product leak/rumors to really get going... particularly at Dpreview.com. Anyway, this is the latest "sneak preview". Real? who knows?

Do we "know" what the specs on this are? I've actually been expecting them to announce a new model since they lowered the price of the 20D by $100 earlier in the week.

Of course not. Personally, what I'm hoping for is a 20Dn (or 20D mkII - however they label it - just NOT a 30 something) 10+MP , 1.6/1.3 factor, nice big LCD, iso 50 and 3200. I'd trade in my 10D's in for a pair of those in a minute. Certainly not something for current 20D owners to get excited about, but I really don't think there will be anything to appeal to them unless they are ready to jump to the 5D.

Yeah, whatever they do, it needs to be able to compete with a Nikon D200. That's what I'm hoping anyway. That's another reason I figured they'd come out with something too. Guess we'll find out. I have a 20D and no plans to upgrade right now, but I have some Nikon friends who go on about the D200 (not that they can get one, since Nikon's been sold out forever and slow to make more). Stupid Nikon. :D

Yeah, an upgrade from the 20D would be silly unless you've got the NEED or plenty of cash. That's why I sat out the 10d to 20d - a 6mp to 10/11/12 mp upgrade will be worth it vs. a 2 mp jump to the 20D. And, I've been really wanting more leeway with cropping lately - but I still need to end up with a reasonable file size, so a 10+ MP camera would do it.

As for the whole canon/nikon competition... I'll just leave that to them. After all, like the auto and computer industries, all the future models are already made - they're WAY ahead of us. I'm sure there's a 16mp, $1000.00 camera sitting on some interns desk right now... we'll see it in two years.

I have to say this looks fake to me, although that doesn't mean to say the rumor itself isn't true; however I would have to agree with your expectation of a 20Dn (or similar) opposed to a completely new model - simply because all the market requires is an improved 20D.. not a whole new camera.

I loved my 20D.. an absolutely stonking camera for the money - although I'm even happier with the 5D :)
