Wow, talk about a lame upgrade. I was expecting so much more. Disappointed. Glad I don't need a new camera because I'm not in love with the 5D yet see it now as the only choice. Here's hoping the camera makes it through another 18 months :D

I guess this accounts for the lack of any real info leaks up until now. It certainly looks like a nice camera, but who are they targeting??? Not 20D users looking to upgrade. MAYBE 10D users like me, but I really needed more MP. The 5D is pricey, but might be the only choice for many of us. Maybe that's it - this is a strategic move to push more 5D's...

But the frame rate on the 5D is just so lousy. Yeah, big disappointment.

Yeah, its slow but really... unless you shoot sports and action all the time, I think 3fps is going to be fast enough to capture my models and landscapes :)

I like the iso 50 on the 5D too - if only the 30D had it....

But the real question is What the heck were they thinking with the name??? D30 -30D? seems like mistake to me, but maybe they figure everyone's forgotten about the D30. OR perhaps that's who this camera is for - D30 users looking to upgrade! That would be a pretty serious jump if you were a D30 user, I think...

Yeah, it's really odd. I'm glad my camera is working fine. I also think they released sort of a shity lens lineup too. Dissapointing all around.

I have to disagree... the 17-55 is interesting to me because of the f/2.8 and the IS - its like a new and improved 17-40, with a bit more range. Alot more expensive than that 17-40 though!

But it's an EF-S lens which is no good for you.

Not with the 10D - that's right. But the only lens I'm in the market for right now is the 15mm f/2.8 Besides that one, I'm pretty much all set. I like the 20-35mm that I just got. Its a really useful, light and cheap (relatively) lens.

But, I'm not sticking with the 10D's much longer. I need bigger files, which is why I really wanted the 30d to be 10+ MP... 8mp IS more than the 6 I have now, but its not really significantly bigger, so the 5D does have alot of appeal. Its really going to come down to money I think. I can get a pair of 30s for less than one 5D. How badly do I want the 4 extra MP???

I also want to check out the physical size of the 30D. I haven't used a 20, but its supposed to be much smaller than the 10 - a real negative for me. If its more like the 10, then that would be great. Maybe I'll have to go play with it at B&H!

Huh? Older version?

Would that be a DSC 520, D30, D60, 10D, 20D ?

If it was at Walmart, it was likely one of the Rebel (consumer, not pro or prosumer line of camera bodies) like the 300D or 350. Those two are pretty cheap - under 1000 dollars. For those of us who do this for a living, "pricey" starts with the Canon 5D at 3200 dollars and on up to the DSmkII at about 8000. And then there are the Hassleblad cameras which start around 25,000.

well, those prices are much worse haha, but ya it was like 925 bucks at the wally-world. Not sure the exact title of it though.
