Weird? Maybe. Cool? yes, I think so.

RISD Master of Fine Arts student Jeff Barnett Winsby takes photos of people who answered his ad on Craigslist. There's a lot of good portraits here, but the commentary in the responses to his ad is what makes the project successful. For instance, KATRINA says she's moving to New Orleans in September... priceless.

This is fantastic. What a fantastic way of presenting it too - a faux craigslist format.

Very smart.

Yeah, I thought the presentation was great as well.

Any luck with the Rebel? When you do sell it, let me know. I'm planning to sell both my 10D's in the same price range and I'll probably post in the same places - no need for us to compete. I'll wait until yours sells. BUT, if anyone you're selling to inquires about lenses let them know I'm selling my Sigma 24-70 2.8 and the 20-35mm. I'm trying to get down to just 4 lenses if possible....

No real luck with the rebel yet. I've got two interested parties but both are on the fence. I've got alot of inquires from people in Canada, but I don't want to deal with shipping outside the US, and even thought it says that in the payment description, I keep getting people emailing me who just ignore it.

Hey, I wanted to ask you about how you do your custom white balances. I spent most of yesterday trying to get a good one, but nothing was coming out really white - either it was darker, or it was just coming out too warm of an image. Got any tips? I'm using alien bees for my strobes, and I've heard they don't really put out at 5200k, but nobody can tell me what they usually put out at (6000?).

Hmm. I'm not sure I can really help with the white balance thing. Currently, I'm using tungsten hotlights and have no problems getting clean white. I'm actually buying a pair of AB 800's this week, so I'll be able to give some more accurate feedback soon. I haven't heard anything about the 5200/6000 thing.

Sorry I can't be more helpful with that!

Ha! It turns out that over in my community (weird_ri) people actually know some of the portrait subjects... and they're on LJ. Very small world, even smaller state.
