You'd think it might be a joke, but its not! Straight from my friend in Iraq (who runs the ICU at Camp Anaconda in Balad) is a photo of the "how to" manual of combat surgery - in use!

Dude, that shit's from 2004 - must be way outdated!

Maybe that's why the Iraqis are so pissed at us, we give them old copies of Emergency War surgery....

2004? I'd consider that to pretty darn current for any govenment publication! Don't think that there aren't 50 year old manuals in use in the military... its all for the same reasons that hammers would cost you or me 10 bucks, but for some reason cost Uncle Sam 2000 dollars. Red tape.

But really, putting destroyed bodies back together changes very little in a couple years - and the reason these guys need a manual is because most of them are Reservists who normally deal with mundane, civilian issues - not gunshot wounds, bomb blasts, etc. The guys who are truly on the cutting edge in combat today are the medics and navy corpsmen - people who are EMT's an Paramedics in thier civilian lives - who see crazy crap like that every day... except maybe on a smaller scale.
