HDR?

I generally HATE the look of HDR images, but this quickie faux-hdr technique has a few practical applications if applied carefully, I think.

In Photoshop:
1. Copy your photo to a new layer (so you have two identical layers)
2. Desaturate, invert and gaussian blur the new layer.
3. Set that layer to Overlay (or soft light for a less intense effect), and then adjust the opacity to achieve the look you're after.
