Vintage wallpaper portraits?

What's the deal with this "look"? I'm seeing it more and more frequently, and I don't know why. They style is ok I guess, but what's with the mass-appeal?

my "work work" job involves researching trends in design and patterns. and, that being said, right now, vintage wallpaper with "fresh, new" color schemes is really hot right now. it sells well and looks expensive. you're going to see more clothing and paper products in target with this kind of look over the next 6 months and then you'll see it start to taper off as the next new "pattern" trend takes over :-P

Thank you!

Guess this means I need to track down some wallpaper - before the trend peaks!

I kinda like it. perhaps they are finding cheap wallpaper in some discount store somewhere?

I'd like to see what it looks like with the subject a few feet more away from it with shallow DOF - would probably make nice colorful bokeh designs with the patterns.

Perhaps I too shall look for some cheap wallpaper designs :-)

Well, I don't HATE it... it just seems to be overwhelming - particularly at iStock. There are a few people who seem to only shoot these spot-lit wallpaper portraits. And from what I've seen, they're not huge sellers either, so I don't really get it. But if its an evolving trend, I'm happy to jump on board and make a few bucks - there's far less of it at Getty so maybe I can grab some bigger sales while the look is hot.
